Game Design graduates can explore roles such as gameplay mechanics designer, level designer, gameplay programmer, games designer, gameplay programmer, multiplayer game developer, technical artist (VFX & procedural environments), character/environment artist, games animator, rigger, 3D modeller or sculptor, or games project manager.
You could find work with one of your favourite studios or launch your own games.
Our Game Design courses focus on industry-standard software, including Unreal Engine, Maya, ZBrush, Houdini and the full Adobe Creative Cloud. These tools are essential for 3D modeling, texturing, animation, and game development.
Your final four subjects in the Game Design Bachelor Degree are all about taking your place as an industry contributor. One option is the Professional Internship Program.
You will be immersed in a professional industry organisation where you will develop relevant practical skills oriented toward your chosen career. It will provide you with an opportunity to apply what you know, be mentored, receive feedback and seek opportunities for development in a real-world setting, as well as be exposed to emerging trends and technology impacting your industry. Prior to commencement of the internship, AIT will determine a suitable placement company based on your individual needs and interests.
Our students studying a Game Design bachelors degree end up with a portfolio demonstrating the design of a full game level, with a range of 3D characters and environment assets, a range of rigged and animated game assets: characters and weapons, a fully scripted top-down SHMUP, plus a first person shooter game demo developed in a team and scripted gameplay mechanics. They will also create an action-adventure game demo developed for a console dev kit plus an online multiplayer shooter. Creation of game environments focusing on VFX and procedural assets, motion capture animation and lastly a realtime virtual short creation using live action actors in a film-quality 3D environment will lso be carried out.
Yes definitely, collaboration is encouraged through team projects, particularly during the Game Development Lab and simulated studio environments.
Students will either walk away with an Australian Higher Education Accrediateted; Bachelor of Game Gesign (3 years) or an Australian Higher Education Accrediiated Diploma Certificate of Game Design (1 year).
We use a hybrid learning methodology here at AIT. A significant portion of the Game Design course is hands-on, with two-thirds of classes held on campus in studio environments. Students engage in practical labs, project-based learning, and the use of professional industry-grade tools.
We have a dedicated Partnerships Team whose role is to assist in bridging the gap between university and the workforce. Students present their Game Design portfolios, including game prototypes and assets, to industry professionals through AIT’s network and events.
Domestic applicants for Diplomas & Bachelors in Games Design need to have:
Successfully completed an Australian Senior Certificate of Education or equivalent, i.e. International Baccalaureate, or higher qualification; OR
Successfully completed a Certificate IV, VET Diploma or Higher Education Diploma (or higher) in a related field.
NB: You are not required to have an ATAR ranking for entry into the above Bachelor or Diploma courses.
Our Game Design bachelors degree can be completed in 3 years of full time study or up to 6 years part time, with learning held two-thirds face-to-face on campus and one-third online.
